Brooks: Calgary's influential girls saluted at gala

Greater than 1,200 company attended the Axis Connects’ hosted Calgary Influential Ladies in Enterprise Awards gala on April 13 on the Telus Conference Centre. Premier Danielle Smith offered opening remarks, including to the cache of the black-tie occasion. This was the fourth 12 months the awards have been hosted, however the first time it raised greater than $1 million to fund packages devoted to advancing girls in management roles throughout myriad industries.

A 30-person choice committee comprised of leaders in Calgary chosen this 12 months’s honourees which had been introduced on March 8 –Worldwide Ladies’s Day. The 2023 award recipients are Sue Riddell Rose, president and CEO of Perpetual Power and Rubellit Power, (lifetime achievement award); Manjit Minhas, co-founder and co-owner of Minhas Breweries Distilleries and Wineries (small and medium enterprise award); Kelly Schmitt, CEO of Benevity Inc. (giant enterprise award); Sippy Chhina, companion, director and vice-chair of Deloitte Canada (skilled providers award); Andrea Robertson, president and CEO of STARS (social enterprise award); and Mark Brown, vice-president and basic supervisor of Fluor (male champion award).

Others in attendance this night time included: Axis Connects government director Nuvyn Peters with board chair and co-founder Heather Culbert, Jenna Kaye (governance chair), Marnie Smith (audit chair), Katie Smith-Mother or father (director), and Brenna Hardy; ATB president and CEO Curtis Stange with CFO Dan Hugo, board chair Joan Hertz, and director Maryse Saint-Laurent; previous U of C president Elizabeth Cannon; Deloitte’s Tim Onyett; United Means’s Karen Younger; Mike and Linda Shaikh; Mawer’s Craig Senyk; Transalta’s John Kousinioris and his spouse Amanda; Calgary Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Deborah Yedlin along with her husband Martin Molyneaux; RBC’s Jeff Boyd; and occasion sponsor Postmedia colleagues Lorne Motley, Dean Jager, Monica Zurowski and Michele Jarvie.

Congratulations to this 12 months’s worthy award recipients.
