Letters, June 8: We face the revenge of our planet

Re: Particular rapporteur to face barrage of questions from MPs; Home committee, June 6

David Johnston issued an announcement saying that whereas he respects the proper of the Home of Commons to precise its opinion, “My mandate comes from the federal government. I’ve an obligation to pursue that work till my mandate is accomplished.”

The Authorities of Canada is the physique chargeable for the federal administration of Canada. A constitutional monarchy, the Crown assumes distinct roles: the chief, because the Crown-in-council; the legislative, because the Crown-in-Parliament; and the judicial, because the Crown-on-the-bench.

Johnston implies his accountability is to the Liberals — the chief of Canada — to not the Authorities of Canada.

His assertion ignores the remainder of the federal government, which he additionally has a accountability to — the Legislature (Home of Commons) and probably the judicial department. It appears Johnston believes that the needs of a majority of Parliament is simply an opinion of much less worth than his personal. Is there undue authoritarian strain at work as he dismisses the Parliamentary department?
